Sir Julius Yogel VS TILL ADDRESS THE ELECTORS V\ OF ASHBURTON AT THE TOWN H- A L L, ON FRIDAY, 13th JUNE, At 8 p.m. ALFRED HARRISON, 6 1093 Hon. Sec.

rpo SIR JULIUS VOGEL, K.O.M.G. Sia, —We, the undersigned Electors of Ashburton, desire that you will permit yourself to be Nominated as a Candidate for the House of Representatives in the place of Mr E. G. Wright, feeling sure that the colony requires all th 9 political experience available to help it in the present crisis. Should you accede to our request, we pledge ourselves to do all in our power to secure your return. W. 0. WALKER, DONALD WILLIAMSON, and Seventy-five others. 0 THE ELECTORS Gentlemen, —In reply to your requisition, I have pleasure in placing my services at your disposal. My inducement to re-enter Parliament is the hope to be useful. New Zealand should be now enjoying exceptional prosperity ; causes which, I think, are removoable produce’ the depression which is driving away capital, paralysing enterprise, and reducing the power to employ labor and encourage industry. I hope to be able to aid in removing the causes, as also to assist in consolidating a strong party. At present public men appear to be separated, not so much by practical as by theoretical questions. The aspiration to be of service alone tempts me in my present impaired state of health (the result of a slow recovery from a severe illness), to accept the responsibilities you offer me. j On account of my invalid condition, I must ask you to excuse my addressing more than one meeting. Pray believe |that I am not insensible to the importance of all parts of the district and to the claims of the electors where ever-they reside. lam simply unfit for the exertion now, though after the session I hope to be able to do much more. OF THE ASHBURTON DISTRICT^ 6 1092 Your obedient servant, JULIUS VOGEL.
