The proportion of reserve to liabilities has fallen from 48 to 47 per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 2% percent., and the market rate at r jiConsols are unchanged. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. There are no changes to report in the wheat and tallow markets. N The Wool Sales. At the wool auction to-day 9,4*0 bales were offered. The market continues firm, and crossbreds are rather > bigher. 28,000 bales have been with- * drawn since the opening. The Frozen Meat Trade, v ' London, June 6. v The steamship Florida, from Wellington (April 4th), with a cargo of frozen meat, arrived here yesterday. Imperial Parliament. The House of Commons re-assem-bled yesterday after Whitsuntide holidays.
Sonakixn Threatened. Telegrams from Souakim, where the garrison has been reinforced by a body o! British marines, state that Osman Digneh, with a following of 7,000 Arab rebels, is now in the neighborhood, and threatens to make an attack on the town. Reported Escape o t Gordon. , . Oaibo, J one 4 Reports have reached here to the effect that General Gordon left Khartoum, and escaped southward up .the river Nile on board a steamer. Spanish Dynamitards. Madbid, June 5. A serious dynamite explosion occurred at Barcelona, where attempts were made to commit similar outrages last mdnth. The explosion was caused I by a dynamite cartridge which Lad placed in the street. One person was drilled, and the buildings on the spot rwere greatly injured. The Sondax| Campaign Suspended. Oaibo, June, 6. The preparations which were in progress for the Autumn campaign to the Soudan have now been suspended. The State of Crete. Constantinople, J one 6. The latest news from the island of Crete reports that disputes between the Cretan Christians and the officials of the Porte .have been arranged, and State affairs are now quite pacified. In consequence of the settlement arrived at, Photiader Pasha, who recently resigned the Governarshijpi of the island, has now agreed to retam iiis omc*.
