ASHBURTON RACING CLUB.

The half-yearly general meeting of this Club was held at the Club’s room last evening. There was a fair attendance of members, and .‘vir E. G. Crisp occupied the chair.

The minutes of last general meeting having been read and confirmed, the Secretary read the following report : “Your Committee have very much pleasure in laying before you a statement of accounts for the period of their office. They commenced the year with a credit balance of L 163 8s lid from the preceding season, and although they are [unable to hand over a similar balance to their successors the accounts will show that they have expended L 564 3s Id on buildings and plant, and the stakes paid away have amounted to L 1,040 ss, an increase of L2OG 19s 2d upon last year. Members’ subscriptions have fallen from L 126 to LlO4 10s, but the revenue from all other sources has increased, privileges from L 473 12s 5d te Lo3B 8s 9d, and totalisator from L 359 Is 6d to L 485 12s 6d. In framing their programmes your Committee have endeavored to. meet horse owners by effecting a considerable reduction in the fees for nomination and acceptance, and they have reason to be well satisfied with the result. Last season these fees amounted to L 409, while during the season uuder review they have amounted to L 419, an increase which will at once indicate that the fields at the different race meetings have improved. Tour Committee have expended L 22 18s 8d attempting to form a training track upon the racecourse, but they have found the character of the soil there quite unsuitable for the purpose aud have now determined '

to lease a training fcinck f>ons Mr Quill, an arrangement which they venture to think will be satisfactory to owners. Shortly after assuming office your Committee engaged a caretaker at a salary of L7O for ten months. They are perfectly satisfied with the services of the man secured for this office, bat to place their successors entirely at liberty in this matter they have given the caretaker the necessary notice to tertriuate his engagement.” The following statement of accounts was submitted : Ashburton Racing Club in Account with the Honorary Treasurer Cr.
