Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday Afternoon. Ashburton Live Stock Market,—Mr B. G. Staveley, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, reports on the Ashburton Live Stack Market under date 3rd June ;—The entries in each class were the lightest that have come forward for some considerable time. The attendance was not numerous, and little interest was taken in the proceedings, in fact business was merely nominal. all but a few pens of sheep being passed in unsold. Fat crossbreds brought ns gd and 13s, prime merino ewes xos 6d, aged merino ewes 2s S<L The cattle trade was also quiet. Fat cows and heifers realised L 3 12s 6d, L 3 17s 6d, L 4 Ss, and L 3 17s 6d a piece t a few other sorts were disposed of at current rates. Messrs Matson, Cox and Co., report upon the live stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending June 4th, as follows : On Tuesday, at the Ashburton yards we held our visual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. The attendance was the smallest that we have ever seen, and the catalogue for the day’s transactions the worst since the yards were erected. We quote mutton at 2#d to oer lb ; beeY, at 16s to 17s per roolb. In sheep, fat and crossbred was sold at 13s, merino wethers, los 6d, crossbred store ,wethe’-s, lis qd to 143, old merino ewes, 2s 3d. Fat cows, L4SS to Ls 17s 6d. Messrs Friedlandcr Bros (in conjunction with Messrs R. Wilkin and Co, Mr F. C. Tabart auctioneer), report on the live stock market for the week ending Tuesday, 3rd June, as below :—We have again to report another we?k of very little business in the stock market, and at the Ashburton Yards on .Tuesday the entries were very small and-the attendance also limltrL result of ay s traosacrtons only nominal, as although a small list stock only to hand, yet buyers were not found for greater portion at auction, but some lines were afterwards sold privately at about late quotations. We quote for mutton and beef respectively per lb and 16s to 18s per loolbs. We sold privately during the week 280 fat merino wethers 8s 6d, 250 fat wethers 13s, and 1,500 merinos at 3s Qd.
