Ashburton Guardian Office, —Wednesday Afternoon. Tinwald live Stock-Market.— Mr E. G. Staveley (for HiP Aew' Zfeabnd Loan and Mercauti e Agency Co., Limited), reports as under on the above oroarket at 27th May:— Sheep; A comparatively light entry was StleaaUeeQas small, and little business was done in either department, most of the entries being withdrawn. Messrs Friedlander Bros, in conjunction with Messrs R. Wilkin and Co (per Mr F. C. Tabart, auctioneer), report on the live stock market for the week ending May 27th, as follows:—At the Tinwald yards the total entries of sheep and cattle were considerably under the average, and the attendance of purchasers for the lines offered was also limited, altogether resulting in a very small amount of business being put through, and prices realised show no improvement on sales at the yards lately. We quote for mutton, 2j£d per lb for prime lots. Reef from 16s 6d to 18s per loolbs, with a greater supply available than required for present season. Fat pigs are now coming for- ■ ward for the curers in considerable numbers, . but the sellers of this line of stock prefer consigning their produce per rail in carcase to the factories, so very few bacon pigs are now put through the auction yards. Messrs Matson, Cox and Co. report upon the live stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending May 28th, as follows Ou Tuesday we held our usual sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. The attendance of farmers and others was very small, and the sale throughout was a dragging one. In fat sheep there were quite sufficient for local require- : meats, especially in fat crossbred ewes and Wethers, but . very few merino wethers came forward. In fat cattle there was a better entry than usual, and the bidding was more keen ikan has been the rule for some time past. We quote mutton at 2j£d per lb, and beef at 17s to 18s per loolbs. We also . a very fine line of first cross lambs, 1,500 * in all, but not' reaching owner’s reserve were turned out unsold.
