UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD

The annual meeting of the Board was held at the Board’s Office, Tinwald, today at noon. Mr Donald McLean occupied the chair. t he report and balance-sheet were read by the Clerk. The former called attention to the fact that the financial year had been commenced with a bank overdraft of nearly LSOO. This was now extinguished, and the Board had a credit balance of Ll6O at the bank. Notwithstanding the economy necessary to effect this improvement in tho Board’s position, work to the value of nearly LI,OOO had been done in the district —1,400 chains of new road had been formed. The Board had taken over the roads in Allenton and bridged the Wakanui creek in two places at a cost of nearly LIOO Balance-sheet. On the motion of Mr Broomfield, a vote of thanks was passed to tho members of the Board, which Mr McLean acknowledged, It was resolved to postpone the discussion of local government by two rating bodies until after the next meeting ' of the County Council.
