Messrs Friedlander Bros., in conjunction with Messrs R. Wilkin and Co. (per Mr F. C. Tabart, auctioneer), report of the live stock market for- the week ending Jan. 16th as toilows:—At the Ashburton kaleyards 3,227 sheep and 128 head of cattle were yarded For the week’s supply. In fat sheep there was a fair entry. The attendance of buyers was not so numerous - as at late sales; no doubt farmers at the present time are very busy m getting their harvesting started, consequently biddings were dull, and we have to report a of folly is per head on most classes ot sheem' We sold aline of fat ewes and wethers at 12s 7d and 13s 3d. We quote mutton at »Sfd on the average. In store sheep there was a medium entry, but the demand was not so ereat as at former sales. Merino ewes with lambs (Shorn) sold at 9s 8d ; in their wool, lis fid- In fat cattle the entry was not so -lake as Usual; the quality on the whole Kwffg poor, and prices Ruling from ids to igs per toolb for best quality. In store cattle go6d^lines Came to hand, bat they were slaughtered at ridiculous ■ prices. Pnvately during the week we placed a line of 3,000 merino ewes and also a line of 2,000 merinq wethers: (delivery to be taken Ist April),'at'a satisfactory price.
