RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

ASHBURTON.—To-day,

(Before H. 0. S. Baddeley Esq, R M.) Drunkenness. Samuel Corrigan, an old offender, against whom a prohibition order had been taken out, which has just expired, was fined 10s or forty-eight hours' imprisonment. A first offender was ordered to pay ss, with the usii ‘1 olternative. CIVIL CASES. Perryman v. Funge. Claim of L 4 19s 3d for wages.—Mr Crisp appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Caygiil ; for defendant. Tnis was a case in which the amount claimed was for bricklayer’s work done at Westerfield. The defence was that the defendant had made over the contract to a bricklayer named Emerson, and the latter should settle with the plaintiff. After hearing evidence, his Honor gave judgment for the amount claimed with Court costs.

Judgment went by default in the following cases : Ashburton Guardian Company v G. T. Nixon (Christchurch), claim L 7 ; Orr and Co v Hussey, claim L2 19s fid ; McFarlane v Murray, u 5 10s Id.

The following cases were brought up on judgment summonses ;—Gookson v Murphy, claim of L2 19s; payment at the ra e of 10s per week, the first instalment to be made a month hence ; Tucker and Rested v Metcalfe, claim L 4 13s Bd, to be paid at the rate of 15a a week, tl.e first payment to be made a month hence. The Court then adjou-ned.
