The Transvaal Frontier. London, Jan. 10.
It is believed that the Transvaal Government will reject the proposed modification of the frontier line which is proposed to be made in _ order that native chiefs friendly to England may be afforded British protection.

Intelligence received on the 7 th inst that the Malagasies had accepted the French. ultimatum and agreed to cede the northern portion of Madagascar is not yet confirmed. Later news states that France insists on the establishment of a French protectorate over the %hd!S v,t island, and as the demand is objected to by the Malagasy Government matters are still unsettled. A Successful Loan. Tenders for the City of Auckland loan of Ltoo.ooo were opened to-day. J The total amount offered was found to be Lyoa.ooo. Tenders at LlO2 7s 6d will receive 5 per cent of the allotment * and tenders above that amount will rer ceive in full.
