CRIMINAL SESSIONS.

Auckiand, To-day. Judge Gillies, in opening this criminal' sessions this morning, said the calendar was an extremely light one, being thirteen cases, in which thirteen parsons were charged. The offences were also light, sigh 1 --: being ordinary larcenies, four against natives for sheep-stealing, one of forgery, one ca_e of house-breaking, and one of shooting at a steer. , c '- John Cash, an old man, was found guilty, of stealing articles of clothing, aQd sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. ■"
Wellington. Whlington, To-day. The Supreme Court criminal sessions opened this morning before Justice Richmond. In charging the Grand Jury, his Honor said the calendar was not longer than usual, yet there were two or I’three 1 ’three cases of a serious nature. Cqq charge was that of ar on, in which the principal evidence was a statement made by tbq accused himself. Another was of attempted murder. Jt was one'in which a man inflicted a serious wound on his paramour, which might easily have been fatal. Another serious case was that of an unfortunate girl charged syith the murder qf a newly-born infant. His EjLonor e&id qs the law stood at present it did nqt discriminate between cases of this kind aqd those of an ordinary nature. If the jury were satisfied that t'ie child met a violent death at the hands of its mother «ftqe birth, it was their duty to return a true bill of wilful mu’der, The other cases were of ordinary larceny.
True bills were returned in the following cases :—Anderson, for attempted murder ; Korth, for forgery; Jansen, foe larceny ; Kate Boyle, for murder. Christchurch. , ■ Chkistchttkch, To-dayi 1 r{ The criminal sessions of the Supreme Oomt opened this morning. Thera 'are nineteen cases on the list. Judge Johnston’s charge to the jury was very -brief. He remarked that the calendar was heavy and some of the offences of a serious character, but none of them presented special difficulties.
DunedinDunedin, To-day. Judge Williams’charge was brief.;. He said the cases presented no special .difficulty, though same of the crimes charged were of a very 'serious nature. . i
