The consecration of Dr Alfred Barry to the iietropolitan see of Sydney, New South Wales, took place at Westminster Abbey to-day. The ceremony was very largely attended both by the clergy and laity, and all parts of the edifice were crowded. Canon Westcott. who preached the sermon at the consecration of Dr Barry in referring to the ceremony, expiated upon the peculiar fitness of Dr Barry, for the office to which he has been chosen. . The Brogden Failure. The failure of Messrs Alexander and Henry Brogden is attributed to the rejection of their appeal to the Government of New Zealand for the liquidation of their claims in connection with .colonial railway contracts and to numerous minor failures in the iron trade. The trial of the Marquis de Rays, on charges of fraud and deception, in connection with the New Ireland expedition, concluded to-day, when the prisoner was found guilty and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, and to pay a fine of 3,600 francs.. The associates of the Marquis were also found guilty and sentenced to shorter terms of imand fined in the same amount.
