MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Fri iay, the 14 f h inst. Present—Messrs J. Jackson (chairman), W. McMillan, G. Coward, R. Patton, and W. Morgan.—The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. overseer’s report. The Overseer reported that D. Quin had finished his contract of forming the Southeast Boundary road in a very satisfactory manner, and sown the same with grass seed ; that George Jackson had completed his contract for shingling a portion of the West Coast road ; that contractor James Nee was making very good progress forming and shingling Barker’s road ; that E Tilling would complete his contract of clearing the Rakaia Gorge Bridge road in a few days; that S. Boyle was progressing with his contract of forming and shingling the streets in Methven, and would finish before next meeting ; that Messrs MoOlimont and Carleton had commenced their contract of shingling Highbank road, and were making exceptional progress with the same, and that the floods during the month had done considerable damage to several of the roads. The Board’s men and team had been engaged repairing the same, and executing several other minor works in different parts of the district. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Ashburton County Council, forwarding report of the Committee appointed by the Council to examine the roads near Methven, and report on the damage done to them by stormwater. —As the Board considered the report unsatisfactory it was resolved to get a section of the work known as Chapman’s creek extension surveyed, showing the different levels, and that the Chairman acknowledge the receipt of the letter and call the Council’s attention to several clauses in the report which the Board considered inconsistent with the evidence.

A letter was read from the County Council asking the Board to recommend a suitable person as poundkeeper for the Methven pound. —Resolved that Mr J. 0. McWilliam be recommended, and that the Council be ask;d to repair the pound fences. A letter was received from the Mount Somers Road Board asking for an amended estimate for repairs to the Alford Forest boundary road.—Resolved to ask for an explanation, as this Board has not furnished any estimate of the work required. Resolved that if the parties interested defray the expenses of fencing the road they want opened near Mount Hutt, and the Board will accede to their request. MISCELLANEOUS. After receiving a deputation on some minor matters and transacting the usual routine business, accounts amounting to L 383 4s 4d were passed for payment the Board adjourned.
