RULES. 1. A district horse shall mean any horse that .has been commonly resident in the Counties of Ashburton or Geraldine from September 27, 1883, and up to the date of the forthcoming meeting, and owned by a person who has resided in one or both of the said Counties during the same period. 2. General rules of Ashburton Racing Club and Canterbury Jockey Club racing rules strictly adhered to, and , new scale of' weight for age adopted. 3. Five per cent, will be deducted from the gross of all moneys payable in accordance with programme, for expenses of the course. '

4. All disputes, claims, and objections arising out of- the racing shall be decided by the stewards, or whom they may appoint,, their decision on all poinr.s connected with the carrying out of this programme to he final, and entries will only bo.received subject to these conditions. 5. All nominations and acceptances go to .the fund. Rules. H+No. I—All races, with the exception of Nos. 5 and 6, to be open to horses whose owners have resided in the Ashburton County three months! immediately pro ceeding Ist January, 1884, and have been their bond fide property , during that time. No. 2—Any horse breaking in the Trotting Race must pull up immediately and turn. No. 3 —No protest will be entertained unless 10 per cent, of the first prize be deposited with the Secretary, which will be forfeited if in the opinion of the Committee it proves frivolous. No. 4—Messrs Hardy and Co.’s Cup to be open to horses owned by bond fide residents in the Mount Hutt and South Rakaia Road Board Districts thiee months prior to the races. No. s—District Hack Race to include horses owned by residents (for three months prior to the races) in the Mount Hutt Road Board District, Alford Forest as far as Bowyer’s stream, thence along Thompson’s track to Mitcham. No. 6—Nominations for handicaps to be accompanied by fees, name, age, performances of the , horse, colors of the rider, to be sent to the Secretarj, addressed Methven Hotel, not later than 9 p.m. on the 15th December. Weights will bo declared on the 22nd December, and acceptances due on December 29th at the Methven Hotel, before 9 p.m No. 7—Entries for Nos. 5 and 6 races accompanied with foes, names of horses, and colors of the riders, to be sent to the Secretary not later than 9 p.m. on Dec. 29th, 1883. No. B—ln all events three horses to start or no race. No. 9—The decision of the Committee to be final in all the events, and entries will only be received subject to those conditions.
