THE TONQUIN WAR.
[KBUTBK’S TELEGRAMS.—COPYRIGHT.] Paris, Dec. 210 It is reported that the occupation of Sontay by the French troops is denied. The latest despatches to hand state that the French captured the outposts of Sontay only after a stubborn fight, in which they lost fifteen officers and two hundred men, the enemy’s loss being very heavy. The assault on the Sontay fortress is to take place on the 17 th inst. The latest intelligence from Tonquin reports that Yoe Due has Assumed the title of King of Anam, with the support of a large proportion of the inhabitants. His succession, however, is strongly opposed by the remainder of the Anamese, and much excitement prevails at Hue in consequence of antagonism between parties. It is probable that the preservation of peace will be undertaken by the French Commander, and that the capital will be occupied by a strong garrison of French troops.
The vote of credit of 20,000,000 francs for the Tonquin expedition was passed by the Senate to-day.
