FATAL ACCIDENT.
We are sorry to h ive to record a a*d ac ident which occuired at Longhe-ich yesterday morning, by which Mr Alfred Dawson, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Feilding, lost his life. Mr Dawson, who has been on a visit during the past fortnight to his father, a well-known fanner at Waterton, went in company with his brothers, Walter, Joseph, and Charles, and his two brothcrs-in-law,. Messrs Hugh Muir and John Barr, to bathe in the sea. The deceased, who was a strong swimmer, was warned of the danger existing from the strong undercurrent, but did not regard the warning. After he had swam some distance he got into the breakers, and it is supposed that the back-wash was too strong and t ok him out to sea, as his companions suddenly lest sight of him. The body was washed ashore about half an hoar afterwards, at 11.30 a.m , and was conveyed to the father’s house, there to await ihe inquest, which was held this afternoon. Much sympathy is felt throughout the district for Mr Andrew Dawson his sad bereavement. The deceased was about 26 years of age, and was spending a fortnight’s holiday at Longbeach, intending 10 return to the North on Wednesday next.
