The body of Thornes Kerr, seamen, one of the victims of the recent boat accident on the bar of the harbor, was found on the Petane beach yesterday. At the inquest to day a verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. An Insurance Technicality. In the Supreme Court, the case of Blackburn v. the Northern Insurance Co, broke down, the plaintiff being unable to prove that the claim had been made within 15 days if the destruction of the pre-

Westport, To-day. The Kawatiri when proceeding to sea last night took the ground on the norlh spit, a considerable distance inside the bar. Her position is not dangerous. Serious Fire. pBEFroN, To-day. A fire broke out in Broadway street at four o’clock this morning, and totally destroyed four buildings. The insurances are—Quigley’s hotel, L 450 Standard, L2OO Scottish Impedal; Dick, L2OO, Standard ; Bridge, L2OO, Imperial; Bell, L2OO, Imperial; Collins (little or no damage), L6OO, Equitable. The Botomahana. Dunedin, To-day. The Rotomahana has made a successful trial trip to the Ocean Bea;h and back, steaming at the rate of 16£ knots. In the course of the proceedings, Mr Ross, the Chairman of the Harbor Board, said that the barque Mataura would be the first Home ship to load cargo at the Dunedin wharves. Fire. A seven-roomed house at Caversham, unoccupied, and owned by Mr Townsend, of the North East Valley, was burned down this morning. It was insured in the South British for 1335. Fatal Accident. 0. Glass, wh ■ was hurt by a horse dragging him at Portobello, died from his injuries on Saturday.
