Melbourne, Nov. 27. The officers who were selected in England for the Victorian Defence Force arrived by the Rome, and have taken up their quarters at St. Kilda, pending the preparation of quarters in the Barracks. Gounod’s new oratorio “ The Redemption ’■ is to be given by the Philharmonic -'ociety in the Town Hall to-night. The event is exciting great interest in musical circles. An agreement between the associated Banks and the Government for floating the new loan in January has been come to, on terms the same as on the occasion of the last loan. The amount to be floated is L 3,200,000, the remaining L. 800,000 of the four millions being reserved to meet debentures falling due in October. Mr D. D.
