Pedigree : The King was bred by Messrs Fleming and Hedley, out of their famous brood mare Miss M Cormick, imported from Melbourne. Miss M'Cormick was purchased by the late David Nesbitt from M‘Cormick Bros., Tasmania, and was specially selected for her breeding qualities —the conectness of that judgment has now been fully verified. As a 3-year-old, Young Vanquisher was first at Geelong, third at the Grand National, Melbourne; as a 4-year-old, first at Geelong and second at Ballarat the same year.
