Ashburton Guardian Office, Saturday afternoon. Messrs Friedlander Bros., in conjunction with Messrs H. Wilkin and Co. (per Mr F. C. Tabart, auctioneer), report on the live stock market for the week ending Nov. 28th as follows: —-The Ashburton yards on Tuesday were well supplied with stock, and the attendance of buyers was large in comparison with late sales. The totals yarded for the day comprised 5,583 sheep,' 192 head of cattle, and 3 pigs. In fat sheep there was a fair entry, the quality, taking it all through, being very good. Our entries for the day were is follows ;—Fat sheep : 57 shorn merino wethers brought 7s gd ; 53 oossbred shorn hoggets, 12s ; 60 merino wethers in wool, 13s fid; 30 shorn wethers and ewes, 13s ; so Shorn mixed sheep, ns fid. In store sheen there was a large entry, and fair competition for anything like good quality. We sold 107 merino wethers* ios2d; 227 shorn we;her hoggets, los fid 1 ? 251 crossbred ewes with lambs, 13s lid; 164 merino wethers, J.os qd ; r 55 merino ewes with lambs, ns; 385 hoggets in wool, los lod ; 32A.merino ewes with lambs, 10s fid. Fat cattle; A fait number came forward ; biddings were, however, anything but brisk. F*t heifers sold at L$ Ss, LS ?s fid, I 4 17s fid. Steers* prime quality, L 6 ros. In stores the enquiries, were rather keener, most of the better sorts being placed at. satisfactory prices to the vendors. 1 We quote mutton in wool at 3d per lb, and shorn at from 2d to 3d per lb, according to quality ; beef from 193 to 23s per xoolb. During the week we placed a line of 1,500 merino wethers on account of a client, at a satisfactory price. . Messts Matson, Cox and Co. held their usual sale of sheep, cattle and pigs at the Ashburton- Yards on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 1883 The entries for store sheep were more numerous than has been the case for some time past, but fat sheep were very poorly represented. In cattle there was also a large entry but the bidding throughout was very weak. We sold fat crossbred shom sheep at 15s 6d ; 230 crossbred hoggets,. trs fid to 13s fid; 10S woolly merirto ewes; 8s ; 120 merino wethers, 8s 4d ; 48 store shorn Baerino wethers, 6s ; 99 at 7s 9d, 6s 4d and 7s Sd ; 210 merino ewes and lambs, 8s 3d* 236 9? id, 13S 8s id ; 80 crossbred ewe?, and laynbs, 15 s * In cattle —Fat steers,, light weights, L 5 8s fid ; heifers, L 4 17s’ fidqhd Ls 7 springers, L 5 ,1-5 2s fid and 1.535; also a line of forward heifers at L 3 i? s fid. b We’ have • still enquiries for sto. e sheep, especially young sound conditioned out of the wool.
