Sydney, Nov. 8. A full court granted a new trial in the divorce suit, tforwiiz v. Ilorwitz and Solomon, on the ground that the damages were excessive and that the co-respondent had not been allowed the riglit of challenging the jury list. fn the Assembly l ist night, the Minister of Lands moved the second reading of the Land Bill, and occupied four hours and a quarter. The Postmaster-General has received a communication from the Manager of the Cable Co., stating that the request of the Conference, that Proas messages should be 1 educed 13 per cent , cannot be complied with.
A warrant haa bean issued for the arrest cf John Biscauueu Duff, Deputy Re-gistrar-General, charging him with having embezzled the sum of L 679, ;the property of the Government. H M.S. Dart has returned to the Harbor after an extended cruise amongst the islands, during which investigations were made into the alleged murder of white men. Frequent thunderstorms, with rain, have occurred nearly all over the country. Brisbane, Nov. 8 At the meeting of Parliament on Wednesday, the relative strength of tho Go vernment and the • pposition was tested by the election of the Speaker, Sir T. M'liwraith moved tho election of Mr John Scott, and Mr Griffith moved that of Mr William Henry Biowno, which was agreed to. There were strong protes s against Mr Browne’s election from members on tho Government aide of the House. The election for Cork resulted in the return of the Ministerial candidates. Melbourne, Nov. 8
At a meeting of the Irish National Convention, a telegram war received from Mr Parnell, wishing success. JMr O’Dogherty was elected president. A long series of resolutions were passed deploring the present condition of Ireland, and pledging the Convention to assist in trying to ameliorate it; adopting a petition to the Imperial Government in favor of ,locil government in Ireland; deploring the crimes which stained the recent history of Ireland, and declaring the coercive policy to be a fruitful source of disorder and crime. The next Convention is fixed to be held in Sydney next year. Government intend to float the principal portion of the new loan in January. The National Agricultural Society’s Show opened with a splendid display in all sections. Fresh summonses against sweep promoters have been issued by the police.
