WAKANUI SCHOOL.
A meeting of the Wakanui School Committee was held in the Main Sghool on Tuesday last. Members present —Messrs J. Kilgour (chairman), T. Walsh, T. Dalton, T. Patterson, J. W. Wilson, and G. W. Leadley. Correspondence was read as follows; From the Education Board, approving of the action of the Committee in suspending Mr Angus ; and ask.ng the Committee to furmah full particulars o’ the case. From the Inspector, stating that his engagements would not permit of his examining the school before the end of the year. From the Drill Instructor, intimating that he had forwarded horizontal bar and parallel bars complete, and for ladder certain portions to complete it, and asking the Committee to have them erected at their earliest convenience.
From the Road Board, stating that they intend to continue the payment of twopence per dozen for eggs and heads of small birds. The communication asked the Committee to allow the master to take delivery of the eggs and heads, and to keep a detailed account of the number delivered by each boy. Prom the Chairman of the Wakanui Library, asking that his lat er be forwarded to the Board, which stated .that that the Library Committee unanimously agreed that he make inquiry as to whether the Boaid of Education would atkwthem to put an addition in the shape of a leanto the north-east end of the school, the addition to bo fitted up as a room to ba used for holding the books and papers of the Wakanui Public Library. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman reported having made the necessary arrangements with regard to the book account ; also, the amounts paid by him as salaries, etc., and the amount which he had paid into the credit of the Committee; and, as instructed, he had the new portion of the school groun 1 fenced in. In compliance with the wish expressed by the Road Board, lie had asked the master to keep an account of heads and eggs of sn>all birds delivered. The makers expressed their willingness to act, The Chairman’s action was approved of. It was decided that in Mr Angus case the Committee have very little more to report to the Board on the matter, than what they have already done. The Chairman was instructed to write to the Board, asking them if they will specially grant the expenditure necessary for the erection of gymnastics. It was resolved—“ That the Chairman of the Library’s letter be not forwarded to the Board; but if at any future time the Library Committee wish to erect a. building, if they will make that building the same height and shape as the school, the Committee will recommend the Board to sanction it.
Agiead to, that November 14th be a school holiday. Mr Leadley applied for the use of the sohoolroom, which was granted on the usual terms.
COMPLAINT Mr James Brown wrote complaining of the way in which the school was b;ing conducted. — It was resolved that Mr Brown be written to as follows :—“ That the Committee can take no notice of the first part of his letter, that part having been dealt with on a previous occasion, the charges having been withdrawn bj' himselt. Further, the Committee are satisfied that the school is managed by Mr Cooksoa and Mrs Williamson ;s a satisfactory manner.” *! With reference to the charge of inkpaioting the Committee considered the charge a frivolous one and beneath their notice, and the Committee further resolved—“ That they consider it very undignified on Mr Brown’s part to be constantly playing the part of spy on the master, and that if he would teach his children to respect their teachers their education would be very materially assisted, and that the Committee decline to forward his letters to the Board o Edu alien ” The meeting then adjourned.
