MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday, Nov. 2nd. Present —Messrs J. Jackson (chairman), G. Coward, and R. Patton. The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed. The -averseer’s report was read and considered, and ha was instructed to have several minor works carried on by day labor. Mr Patton and the Overseer were appointed a Committee to arrange about having the necessary deviations done to the water-races on the South Town Belt, and repairs to the race on the West Coast road, near the Pound. It was resolved to sow the formation on the Boundary road, near Mr Morland’s, with grass seed. Permission was granted to Mr Dllyott to put a water-race across the Cairnbrae road, on condition that ha would fix and maintain the same to the satisfaction of the Board. The Chairman handed in Mr M. J Brown’s plans tor the deviation of certain roads near ilighbank, and it was resolved to receive them, and post up copies of same in the Road Board office, according to the Public Works Act, 1882.

Permission was granted to Messis Gunn Bros, to fix two culverts across the Mount Hutt and Alford Forest roads, on conditions that they would execute the works to the satisfaction of the Board and keep them in good repair. A letter was received from the Ashburton County Council, informing the Board that their Engineer had been instructed to furnish the Board with a section of the south-east boundary road from the Main'- Liver road to jibe Dry creek ; also, that a committee of the Council had been appointed to report on the damage done to the roads in and near Methven. Resolved —“ That a committee of the whole Board be appointed to meet the committee from the County Council, and give them all the assistance and information they could.” Leave was granted to the adjoining proprietors to fix the swing gates on the following district roads in accordance with section No. 139, sub-section JNo. 2 of the Koad Board .Act 1882, viz.—Blackford road anil two roads near' Alford Fpxest bush. - It was reported to the Board that several contractors and others wore in the habit of camping on the sides of the roads, it was resolved that the overseer

give notice to all persons who are now, or maybe camped on the road io remove theirtents, etc., or that the Board will pro_ ceed against them according to the pro visions of the Hoad Board Act 1882.

Notice of motion for next meeting: “ That section No. 9 of the Public Works Act, 1882, Amendment Act, 183 >, re erring to gorse growing on the roads be strictly enforced.” The following tenders were accepted: Mr E Tilling, clearing track and filling slips on road to Rakaia bridge, L4l. Mr John Devery, shingling pot ion of Back track, Is 3d per yard. Messrs Carleton and Clymoilt, shingling and repairs to Highfeank road, Is 3£d per yard. Several important matters were adjourned until there was a full meeting of the Board, and after passing accounts amounting to LlB3 6s 9d and transacting the usual routine business, the Board adjourned until the second Friday in December.
