Ashburton Guardian Office, - ' Saturday afternoon. Friedlander Bros., in conjunction with Messrs R. Wilkin and Co. (per Mr F. C. Tabart, auctioneer), report of last week’s sale for the week ending October 3 IS * 33 follows:—At the Ashburton saleyards on Tuesday, -a large supply of fat and store sheep came forward. Owing to the small attendance, the sale started rather with a dragging style, but after the first few pens were quitted, we noticed that the bidding was more in favor of the vendors. In fat sheep the largest portion comprised of good quality, for which last week’s prices were barely maintained. Fat crossbred sheep in wool made l6s gd, 2is, and 20s 6d. Fat merino wethers, ios, 12s, and 14s. In store sheep there was a good enquiry, and nearly every line offered found buyers at satisfactory rates to vendors. Hoggets sold at 1 is, 13s 4d, 14s fid, and 15s; shorn do’ lis id. A large numbes of merino ewes and lambs were yarded, for which there was a good demand, anything like good-mouthed ewes, with a fair percentage of lambs, bringing capital prices. Fat cattle— A large supply to hand. Biddings were dull compared to late sales, and owners had to submit to a slight drop in prices. Fat steers brought L 4 ios, L 6 ss, L 5 7s fid, Ly, and L 7 ios; cows and heifers, L 5 ss, L 5 ios, and L 6 2s fid. The store cattle pens were not quite so well filled as at the last few sales, and values remaining at the level of latest quotations. We quote for prime mutton from 3d to 3 j£d; beef, prime quality from igs to 22s fid per loolbs. The total number yarded was—sheep, 3,588 ; cattle, 119.
