Calma, while out at exercise this morning, was tried over the Cup distance, and covered it in a second less than Darebin’fl Derby time in 1881, viz , 2min 41£secs. The second forfeits for the Melbourne Cup were declared to-day. The following horses have accepted :—Aide-de-Oamp, Anglesey, Archie, Bisbis, Bordeaux, Calma, Claptrap, Commotion, Cunnamulla, Despot, Dirk Hatterick, Dukedom, First Demon, First Water, Jessie, Kathleen Mavourneen, Kingsdalo, Kohinoor, Lo Grand, Lesbia, Linda, Magnet, Mar-' tini-Genry, Nicholas, Off Color, Pollio, Recovery, Santa Claus, Sardine, Signor, . Sir Modred, Stockwell, Sweet William, , The Gem, and Yernet. Thirty-five horaea - now remain in.

[special to press association.] Melbourne, Yesterday. Heavy rain is seriously interfering with ut training. Commotion had a splendid gallop twice round the course this morning. Stockwell did useful work, and finished a mile fast. Signor and Oanna-

mulla did a s;.>in rourd the course, the former finishing strongly. Nicholas and Aide-de Camp were sent the Cup distance with three-quarter pae, the former coming home well. Magnet had a splendid gallop, and finished the la't mile in grand style in Imin Sfisecs. Frying Pan was sent round the course, which he finished in 2rains 33 secs. Sir Modred, The Gem, and Sardius were sent a mils and a half together, Sir Modred having the best of it, and finished in 2mins 35secs. Despot and Martini-Henry went together, and wound .up well and strong, the last mile being run in Imin. 54fsecs, Dirk Hatterick finishing the same distance in Imin 65secs. Archie and The Drummer w.-nt 'twice . round splendidly. First Demon had a gallop round the course, finishing In grand style.
