The following is the Christchurch Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 19th hist: —Business has not shown ifiuch activity during the past week, and fcwusales. »of consequence _ have taken place, buyers showing no disposition to operate except for immediate requirements at former rates.ri-Whedt: Good milling samples, 3s lod to is per bushel, delivered at Christchurch; second qfetllfyr 3 s 34;td 3 s6dr chick wheat, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel:—Oats : Prime milling, 2s id fo“2s 7*4 per bushel, f.q.b.; bright short inferior discolored, is Bd, to is lod per bushel.— Barley: First class malting,' 4s 3d to 4s 6d per bush 1; second quality, 3s 6cl tq 3 5 ,9 d per bushel; feed, is nd to 2s 2d. —Grass Seed ; Fanners samples, 3s 2d to is od per bushel; machine dressed, 4s to 4s ® per bushel; cocksfoot, 4'/zd to per Lbvt—Potatoes- 25s do 27s fid, at country stations—Cheese and Butter : 4>fcd to Jd for the former; arid yd to 8i for the latter. ~ * hi: m r-q-'-d Messrs Miles and Cou report upon the live stock market for the week ending Thursday, 18th inst., as follows; —At the Addington Yards op Wednesday there was only a mode-. rate 1 entry offat sheep; the quality being on the whole tdlerably good. The feed now being more -plentiful;"and shearings near at hand, there is hh apparent disinclination on the part of owners t 6 sell sand :forward for market. This, combined with the demand existing for sheep fit for freezing, .caused -a very considerable advance in values, and the day’s quotations^^ahJbe"placed; at from- Is to ?.s per head on last week’s, rates. The day’s business opened' mtheriduli, hut values and the biddings as the sale advanced, closing vrilh prices towards the close being from 3j£d to per lb, with, in a few instances, for specially primtylots l , an advance of up to J'at. qatde—-In this class there was a fair entry, the quality being good on the whole. - Shies of beef opened dull, but imprij%d Ir the dlbse, and. prices, we consUMv 4rik^l : He : quotbef at from 22s fid to 25s per loolb. Fat lambs—A very full yard of good qualify dame' forward. Late prices were barely maintained, extept for extra prime lots, sales beihg : made at from 8s fid to 14s fid. Rgs—LimiteA number of entries, mostly of good,, quality, and for. such was briskjland recent rates were fully maintained. Store sheep—A .somewhat larger quantity came forward,- and met with very satisfactory sales, crossbred ewes and lambs selling at up to 18s, hoggets from 10s to 13s. ' Store cattle —X considerable increase, in numbers yarded, but the demand* has decidedly not improved, but the reverse, and last week’s rates were not maintained;' afad in consequence two or three large-lines wOrd turned, out unsold. Ashburton Yards-fAt these yards on Tuesday last there nyas a heavy entry .of stock, viz:, 3.399 sheep and 149 cattle.
