CANTERBURY GOLD.
[BY TELEGRAPH.]
Christchurch, To-day, At the Land Board to-day several parties applied for licenses to prospect for gold, and one applied for a lease. The last informed the Board that be had discovered a gold-bearing reef. All the applications were deferred, pending the return of Mr Baker, chief surveyor, who has gone to the head of the Kakaia, where it is stated a reef bearing gold in payable quantities has been discovered.
