JjlOR AN HONEST DOUBTER, The writer, who has the aincereat sympathy for honest doubters, would strongly recommend that, on the chance of there being some truth in Scripture, the reader should take some such step as using the following lines (at least once every day), which are based on the prayer of a soldier before entering into battle, “ O God, if there be a God, have mercy upon my soul, if I have a soul ” : 1. O God, if God there be, - And I’ve offended Thee, In mercy look on me. 2. My soul, if soul there be, Would’st thou Salvation see? Now to the Saviour flee. 3. O Christ, if Christ there be, And Thou hast died for me, I would Salvation see. 4. Spirit, if such there be, And Thou would’st plead with me, O n.ay I list to Thee. 9 549
