Ashburton Guardian Office, Saturday afternoon. Messrs Friedlander Bros, (in conjunction with Messrs K. Wilkin and Co., auctioneers) report on the live stock market for the week ending lßth Sept, as follows At the Ashburton .saleyards on Tuesday there was a large entry of sheep, both stores and fat, the former predominating, and showing an improved average quality on former sales, but buyers were not in force, and prices were only a shade better than at last sales. Fat cattle were only poorly represented in the yards, but a great number cf stores were entered; the sale for these Whs only limited, and some lots consequently did not change hands. Quotatio sfur sheep are as ■ follows ; —Merino wethers from 9s to ias; these prices perhaps being somewhat influenced by the scarcity of crossbred wethers in the yard, which fetched from 13s to 16s 6d each. For stores and hoggetts we quote at from 8s 6d to 12s 6d each; crossbred ewes in lamb, 12s to 15s; merino ewes in lamb, from $s to Bs. Fat cattle : A line of 17 medium sized young cattle we sold at L 4 8s per head. Beef we quote at from 20s to 22s per loolbs. Stores fetched only nominal rates, viz., young heifers, L2 16s, Lj is, L 3 17s each; dairy cows, L 7 2s 6d, L 5, I 4 7s 6d each, etc.
