Pretender is a dark bay with black points, rising nine years old, with good bone and substance ; stands 16i hands high, splendid temper, good action, and a quiet worker. Pretender is by Prince Charlie (imported from Scotland by Mr W. Boag) out of Maggie by King Fergus (imported from Scotland by Mr David Innes). Maggie’s dam imported from Tasmania. Pretender gained second prize at the Northern Show as a two-year-old in 1876. He also took second prize in 1877. Terms—£2 for the season, guarantee £3, payable oa the Ist January, 1884, and 5s groomage. Groomage fee payable on first service. Will be in Ashburton every Saturday.
