MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday last. Present —Messrs J. Jackson (chairman), VV. Morgan, R. Patton, G. Coward, and VV. McMillan. The minutes of the last meeting wore read and confirmed. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s repo.’t was read, and it was resolved that he get all the minor works mentioned therein done by day labor. DAMAGED ROADS. A letter was received from the Ashburton County Council, advising the Board that their JElngineer was instructed to examine the roads in and near Methven damaged by the storm-water during ihe late floods, and to report to the Council on the matter. —Resolved —That as the Engineer has not reported as promised, a Committee consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Patton and McMillanbeappointed to examine the old creek near Old
Methven, and to have the same cleared out if necessary to prevent any further flooding of the roads, and to examine the roads in and near Methven damaged by storm-water during the late floods, to make an estimate of the damage done, and to apply to the Ashburton County Council for payment of the amount.
DIVERSION OF ROADS. 1 Mr M. J. Brown waited upon the Board and submitted plans for the diversion of roads on sections Nos. 15532 and 7244. — The consideration of the same was adjourned until next Board meeting to enable Mr Brown to furnish particulars. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr A Orr applied to have Barker’s road formed and shingled from present formation to the road leading to Mount Hutt. Resolved—That tenders be called for the work, to be sent in by next regular monthly meeting. A letter was received from Mr J. Grigg re gravel pit neat the townshif of Methven.
Letters were read from Mr W. Gerard, Snowdon, declining the terms offered by the Board for repairing Red Cliffs track ; from Messrs Harper and Co., stating that the streets in Messrs McKerrow and Mann’s Township at Methven were not dedicated to the Crown ; from the Hospital and Charitable Board, fcrwarding report of receipts and expenditure for the last year. PETITIONS. A petition was received from Mr D. C .meron (Clones) and others asking the Board to form the Boundary track from Mr Ullyett’s property to I yndhurst road. —lt was resolved to inform the petitioners that as soon as provision is made for carrying the storm-water off that portion of the district the prayer of their petition will be acceded to.
Messrs Gann and Marr applied to have a road opened through section No. 22020 from their property to the WestGoast road. Resolved—That the Chairman ascertain what arrangements he can make with the proprietor for purchasing the necessary land. board’s accounts. On the motion of Mr Me Vlillan it was lesolved that a Committee be appointed to examine the accounts of the Board and place to the credit of the different Wards the amounts due to them respectively. TENDERS.
The following tenders were accepted for the works as advertised, viz, Mr S. Boyle, forming and shingling streets in Methven ; Mr G. Jackson, shingling portion of West Coast road ; Mr P. Quin, forming portion of Morland’s road near Mitcham. ACCOUNTS. After transacting a great amount of routine business and passing accounts to the amount of L 166 17s 19d, the Board adjourned.
