Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday afternoon. The New Zealand Loin and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (per Mr E. G. Staveley, auctioneer), report on Ashburton live stock sale on ißth September as follows : —Sheep ; A large number of stores yarded, ■but not many fat sheep. Ewes in lamb and couples found the greatest proportion ; but business was not brisk and numerous lots were passed in. Fat merino wethers made from ios to I2s 6d ; crossbreds, 13s 9d to 17s 6d ; crossbred hoggetts, 8s 4d; 2-tooth wethers, 13s. Cattle; In'this department also a large entry was found; stores predominating. Business was dull and buyers shewed little inclination to meet sellers’ views as regards values. Fat bullocks sold to L 7 7s " .1; cows and heifers, I 4 15s to L 7 ios ; sprmgers, L 4 ss, L 6 Ss, L 7 2s 6d and L 8 xos ; young heifers, L 3 is; 18 months’ cattle, mixed sexes, 51s; store steers in forward condition, L 5.
