Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr T. Bullock reports of the Horse Market for the week ending Saturday, September 15: — A small number of horses were brought forward for to-day’s sale, the entries being 15. There was an average > attendance and the biddings were more spirited than at the previous Saturday’s sale, especially for medium draughts suitable for farm work, and those entered fetched full value, although the demand is very limited, caused, I presume, on account of finest horses being now shipped to Sydney and Queensland* 8 were sold at the following prices, viz, medium draughts, L2O, L2O 10s; young filly, light draught, L2O 10s ; aged and inferior draughts and light harness horses from L 5 10s to L - Oats, is lod per bushel. Alfred Harrison reports his weekly sale as follows Friday, September 14 - I held a sale at my yards of a blacksmith’s plant, when all lots offered were sold satisfactorily. Saturday, September 15—Several horses changed hands at from L 6 to Lis Ss, with a better demand. Cows sold fairly well. Pigs brought high prices, in fact a decided advance on late rates. Fowls, 2s 6d ; turkeys, 10s per pair. Produce —Really good Derwent potatoes, 50s to 60s ; kidneys, dull of sale; chickwheat, 2s to 2s 6d ; oats, I? gd ; carrots, 25s per ton. Markets for all kinds of produce are extremely dull, it being very difficult to make sales at any price.
