Drowned.. Dunedin, To-day. A lad named Mcßae was drowned in tie river at Eeko last night. An elder .brother, who jumped in after him, was rescued with difficulty. A Refractory Husband.
At the October sittings Margaret Laverty seeks a judicial separ tion from Charles Larerty. She alleges that on the night of .their marriage in August, 1881, the husband threatened to desert her, grossly abused her, and offered her LIOO if she would desert him. Three days afterawards he threatened to shoot her,.'and 1 presented a loaded gun at her, which his brother discharged, fearing blood would ■be Spilt. Owing to further threats she 'fled from his house, and they have since been living apart. A Sign of tbe Times. • The retail price of mutton has advance 1 to fire pence per lb. A Schooner Ashore. ■ The Collector of Customs has received a telegram from Owake that the schooner Isabella got ashore on the Spit while going oat this morning. The vessel is wa erdgged and the crew saved.
