' [rEUTER’s TELEGRAMS —COPYRIGHT. ] Disastrous Pire. Brisbane, Yesterday. The meat preserving works at Rockhampton were totally destroyed by fire to-day. The loss is estimated at X 90,000, of which L. 20,000 was covered by insurance. The following are the policies held by New Zealand offices:— Colonial Insurance Company, New Zealand, Lr,500, of which three-fourths is re-insured ; United Insurance Company and South British, each La, 100 ; New Zealand Insurance Company, • La,loo, of which LBys is re-insured; - Union Insurance Company, New Zealand; Lg.ooo; National Insurance Company, New Zealand, LSOO. The remaipder is held by English offices. . ' Later The meat preserving works which . •were burnt down at Rockhampton were •situated on Lake Creek. The entire works, comprising several large buildings, were totally destroyed, only some machinery being saved. A cargo of frozen meat, which had been prepared for the steamer Fiado, was also consumed.

[Received Sept. 14, 1.15 p.m.] Brisbane, To-day. The first estimate of L 90,000 as the loss by fire at Rockhampton is over* stated. It is now believed that L 40,000 will cover the damege done. Small Fox Spreading.

J A fresh case of small pox occurred amongst those in the quarantine from the steamship Duke of Westminster. The person attacked was one of the stevedores of the vessel. 5 Another Sick Ship. The steamship Nowsherra arrived here from London with seventy cases of; measles and typhoid fever on board, , She has been ordered into quarantine.
