Ashburton Guardian Office, Friday afternoon. Messrs Miles and Co. report upon the live stock market for the week lending Thursday, 6th Sept., as follows At the Addington yards on Wednesday last there was only a light supply of fat stock, which, however, owing to the flooded state of the paddocks, was fully up to the demand. '1 he quality was as a whole barely up to recent markets, but a few consignments, notably a draft of heavy weight crossbred wethers, from Coldstream, which topped the market at 225. We had a line of splendid quality medium weight crossbreds, from Mr J. F. Wright, of Punsandel, which sold at top rates for mutton. We quote mutton : at 2,%& to 3d per lb. Stares: A very small entry, and prices made much about reCeht. quotations lambs: A few lambs , L were entered, and prices ranged from 7s 6d to 15s. Pigs: In short supply, prices showing no advance on recent quotations.- Fat Cattle ; In this class of stock there was a larger entry than for some - - weeks past, the quality being also rather above ' the average. We sold, on account of Mr W. Gerard, of Snowdon, a line of the giandest and best quality bullocks which have passed under the hammer this season; they were large framed, fine boned, well bred cattle, and .. ; : • sent forward in magnificent condition, and l '.‘ realised Ll2 iqs, Ll 3 10s, Ll 4 10s up to Ll 6, r ‘ : : We quote prime quality beef at 25s per loolb, , aridjnedium ditto at from 20sper loolb. Stores -r-There was, a, light entry in this class, ot ■ ''nieditiiii ' quality ' only, with perhaps; a slightly improved enquiry. Ashburton— At this maiket on Tuesday last there, was a very small supply of sheep, and prices ruled at much about our quotations for ,1 ' the Christchurch maiket. There is a good enquiry for ewes in lamb in this district, but we have no sales to quote from. . ;fThe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile : Agency- Company, limited, report as follows :—Country bales : On 3°lh ultimo we conducted our opening sale at Methven.
