Ashburton Guardian Office, ; ; r ., Wednesday afternoon. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (per Mr E. G. Stavelev, auctioneer), report as under on the Ashburton market under date 4th September, as follows:— Sheep: The entries were not numerous, nor was the attendance up to the average. Business generally was quiet, a considerable portion bf the entries being withdrawn. The fat sheep that were sold realised fair prices, but stores were nbtjreadilv quitted. Fat crossbred wethers' brought 15s ; merino do, ns Qd and 12s 3d, and half fat merino wethers 9s; merino ewes, in lamb, 3s ; for aged up to 7s 6d: for good sound fresh ewes, crossbred Wgettsi ns.— Cattle: A better supply of visual wasJSyarded, though only medium weights prevailed. The local demand however, was not equal to the occasion, and |he peris,were withdrawn. Store cattle * shewed’ little, if any, improvement, and busxpw was restricted within very marrow limits. Fat heifers sold up to LS 7s 6d; springers, L 4, to L 6 ids ; store steers, L2 19s t« L 4; * several lines of good fresh conditioned steers .■’wcte J offered during the day, but failed to change hands.
