At Croydon Borough Police Court on the let July, Arthur Hinton was charged with being drunk and annoying the Salration Army at a “ watch-night” service , ! -which was being held at the barracks of -' the Army at eleven o’clock on Sunday -' Bight, It was stated that the defendant, t- who was'drank and carrying a bottle of - demanded admission, and was rev ftaed. He thereupon knocked the door■keeper down; and entered the hall, after- ‘ Wards conducting himself in a very disorderly. manner. : “ Captain” Smith said •: theybad put up With'the annoyance as long as-they could. —The Chairman : That . is just what the people of Croydon have done. They have put up with the Salvation Army as long as they could, and they chh’t bear it any longer. I would suggest to you to leave off going through the "•' blroeta on-Sundays, and making the disturbance you do. Keep to your building, ’ and conduct your services in a proper way, and if, anyone annoys you—-they need nor go unless they Chose—apply to the police. Chief Inspector Mason said he bad received many complaints ot the annoyance'the ■ Army caused on Sunday. ritdPhe Chairman : Yes ; they are going f-om bad to worse. To “Captain” Smith: I tell yon the people of Croydon won’t hear of your disreputable doings on t-'un-<ii dftyin tha-highway. “ Captain ’’ Smith : It is the order of 11 General ’’ Booth.
