Mr Duncan is to ask the Minister of Public Works if he will the platelayers with shovels, and also 'if he will grant them the three public 1 holidays usually allowed to public servants, .’ ’y 11 Mr Postlothwaito is to move that it’is desirable in order to encourage the dailT produce industry that the Govemmeilt should offer money prizes* for..cheekfe, bacon, and butter ; that th&prizea 'should be for the bestl.OOOlbs weight of cheese, for the best 500 lbs weight- of butter, in tubs of lOOlbs each, and for the best five sides of bacon; that this year the:prresi be competed for at the Canterbury Agricultural Society’s Show, held in November, at Christchurch; and that Government afford every facility for the conveyance of dairy produce from all parts of the colony to compete for the prizes. Mr Pyke is to move that it ..is essential to the well-being and good Government of New Zealand and for the preservation of the unity of the colony that provision should be made for the establishment of one or more local Governments in each Island, with power to legislate for and con-trpLtJie-ftuanagemflnt of local affairs and < the expenditure of local revenues.;
