At the wool sales to-day, 10,800 bales were offered. These is no material change in the prices offered. The market is, if anything weaker. A Threatened Revolution. Paris, August 28. An attempt has been made to incite the populace of this city against the Republic, and placards urging the claims of the Comte de Paris, head of the House of Orleans, and grandson of the late King Louis Phillippe, to the throne of France, under the title of Louis Phillippe 11., has been posted in several places in the city. The New AdmiralAdmiral Galber sailed to-day to relieve Admiral Pierre as commander of the French operations in Madagascar. Crisis in Spain. Madrid, Aug. 28. A serious political crisis occurred here owing to the difference between King Alfonso and his Ministers, the latter having objected to his Majesty leaving the kingdom on a proposed visit to the German empire. No decision has yet been come to in the matter. Retribution. Cairo, August 28. Thirteen prisoners, who were tried and found guilty of complicity in the massacre at Alexandria in July last year, were hanged to-day. Carey’s Murderer. Capetown, August 28. O’Donnel, who shot James Carey at Port Elizabeth last month, sailed to-day for England, where his trial will take place. [Received Aug. 30, 2.10 T- m *] The French in Tonquin. Paris, August 29. The intelligence recently to hand that the King of Anam had submitted' to the French commander, and_ that terms for the cessation of hostilities have been agreed upon is now officially confirmed. The Effect of the Earthquake. Batavia, August 29. The tidal wave experienced at Augil on the coast of this island has caused * the complete destruction of the place
and great loss of life. The recent volcanic eruption on Cracatoa and the marine disturbances have completely changed the aspect of the Straits of Sunda, and the navigation of the passage is now attended with great danger, China on the Alert.
