COURSING.
ASHBURTON COURSING CLUB. The first day of the final meet of the local Coursing Club was favored with fine weather, and there was consequently a large attendance oi lovers of the sport. The ground chosen was on the property of Messrs Saul and Carter, near the racecourse, and hares were plentiful, though extremely wild. At one time “ puss ” was put up seven times before a satisfactory course came off. Some of the runs were very exciting, and those present thoroughly fenjoyed themselves. Mr M. Healy acted as judge to the satisfaction of everyone concerned, and Mr Leitch occupied his accustomed position as slipper. Time was wanting to decide the whole of the events, which were concluded to-day. The lollowing are the results : All-Aged Stakes ; winner, L 4 ; runnerup, L2 IGs. Thirteen entries. First Round.

Mr Kemp’s Taragon and Mr Tait’s Mark Twain ran a bye together Mr Corbett’s Ivanhoe beat Mr Mutter’s Rakaia Spring Mr Mutter’s Count Lallah beat Mr F. Hill’s Bluster Mr Mutter's Prince Charlie beat Mr Alexander's Gilliard. Second Round. Una beat Pericles Ivanhoe beat Mark Twain Count Lallah beat Taragon Prince Charlie ran a bye. Third Round. Una beat Count Lallah Ivanhoe beat Prince Charlie. Ivanhoe having withdrawn Una takes the stakes. Sapling Stakes ; winner, LI 10s ; run-ner-up, 10s. Four entries. First Round. Mr Leitch’s Apprentice Boy beat Mr Tait’s Ivy Mr Mutter’s Lady Kilmarnock beat Mr F. Hill’s Wrekin. Final. Lady Kilmarnock beat Apprentice Boy.
