EXTRAORDINARY TRAGEDY.
A Fireman Shot Dead*

Dunedin, To-day.
As the ten o’clock goods train from Clinton for Invercargill was nearing Wairuns last night, John Henderson, fire* man, was shot dead by a man Unknown, from a bank alongside the line. The train put back to Clinton. A brakesman and the driver were on the engine at the time. Henderson leaves a wife and family, who reside at Invercargill. There is no clue as yet to the murderer.
Later. No fresh'information re the murder is to hand. Guard Duncan says he saw two flashes. Immediately after the second the deceased threw up his arms, and exclaimed “Oh! Peter,” to Peter,Dunn, the driver of the engine, and eipired. Those on the train became frightened, and extinguished all the lights, the train being backed to Clinton. Inspector Weldon and'two detectives proceeded to Clinton this morning.
