COMMERCIAL.
Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday afternoon. The New. Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (per Mr E. G. Staveley, auctioneer), report on Ashburton market under date 21st inst, The supplies of all stock to hand were very limited, and the attendance smaller than usual. Throughout the day business was quiet, very few lots provoking anything like brisk competition. Sheep: Fat merino Wethers brought up to 9s 3d ; mixed crossbreds,lls s to 16s ; wethers, 16s 8d ; aged merino ewes in lamb, 3s 6d and 4s od ; first cross hoggetts, us lod. Cattje ; Hasdly any• really good beef was brought forward; what there was sold readily, enough, but for meditim and inferior lots trade was very languid. Stores were difficult to quit at any price. Fat cows, prime quality, brought up to L 7 17s fid; second rate heifers, L 5 12s 6d; cows in ptbfit and springers made L 3 15s, L 4 7s fid and L 6 17s fid; yea 1 lings brought 16s. There were no lines of good saleable store cattle yarded. ■
