At [the Police Court this morning, a woman named :Josephine Green, was brought up on , two separate charges of stealing a quantity of apparel, valued at L&, irom Hawera, and wilfully murdering an infant child named > Arthur Stanfield, otherwise Arthur Green, on the 11th January last at Hawera. The merits of the case were not gone into at all, and the police asked for a remand to Hawera till Saturday, when they will come on for hearing before the It. M. there. For the latter charge, the woman is said to be arrested in consequence of the sudden and mysterious disappearance of her child. A New Trial. Christchurch. To-day. :■ Mr Harper gave notice in the Supreme Court this morning that he intends to move for a new trial in the case of Stranaglmn y. the Standard Insurance Co., on the ground that the verdict was against the weight of evidence. An Accident. Dunrdin, To-day. The Pembroke correspondent of the Times reports a bnggy accident, three occupants being killed or seriously inlured: No reliable particulars are to hand. A New Organ.
