In the Legislative Assembly to-night the Railway Bill, providing into alia for the appointment of three Commissioners in addition to the Minister, was passed through all its stages. A Welcome Departure. Mr Redmond, Home Ruler, delivered his farewell lecture here this evening prior to his departure for New Zealand. Shipping Accident. Sydney, Tasterday. The Eastern and Australian Steamship Company’s steamer Catterthun, from Foo Chow, which went ashore near Watson’s Bay at the South Head, while leaving Port Jackson, floated yesterday afternoon. Her stern is badly injured, and the vessel has returned here to repair damages.
Shipping.
Sailed, this afternoon—The Union Steamship Waihora, for Auckland. An Absconder Arrested. Wm. White, vinegar manufacturer of Melbourne, who absconded, and who it is alleged* forged numerous bills, amounting to fully LB,ooo, has been arrested on board a steamer which was about to sail for Brisbane—the steamer Lady Bowen—and he had taken passage for Brisbane. He was subsequently brought up at the Police Court and remanded for a week.
