Wellington, To-day. On Tuesday Mr Pyke is to . ask the Colonial Secretary— Whethet' in the interests of public morality he ‘will exercise the discretionary powers vested in him by the, Gaming and Lotteries Act, and* rtf use to grant any: license or authority to usa the total isa tor at horse racing meetings.—(2) In the event of the Minister refusing tof exercise Ms discretionary power,, will the Government allow a Gaming apd Lotteries Amendment Bill, having for its; object the- repeal of the sections of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, .1881, authorising .the r.use of the totalisator by permission of the Colonial Secretary, to come before the* House on a Government day. Mr Turnbull w ill ask ?the Government to-day if they will allow either :the!Hinemoa or the Stella to call at Timaru for those unemployed persons and their families who are desirous of.leaving therefor the North Island, but who unable to provide means of transit.// |- Petitions continue to come in, r praying that the present system of education may be preserved intact
The Wellington Chamber of- Commerce have petitioned the House -against the Fire and i Marine Insurance Company's Bill.
