The following business was transacted yesterday after we went to press; RIVER EN‘ ROACHMENT AT WAKANUI. Mr D. Wilson waited on the Council for the purpose of pointing out that the floods had caused extensive damage in the vVakanui district, and the settlers: wished it to be repaired as soon as possible. He thought there would be no objection to a rate being struck to pay the amount required, which the Engineer estimated at L 1,200. The Chairman asked if Mr Wilson would agree that any temporary repairs necessary should ‘6 a first charge on the rate, and, on receiving an answer in the affirmative, said that the Council would do what they could in the matter, which would be placed in the hands of the Protective Works Committee. On the motion of Mr Lambie, the Clerk was instructed to write to the Selwyn County Council re the duties of th?.foirdsman at Dobbin's Ford, requ sting the latter to spend some of his spare time in improving the roadway and cuttings. The Council then adjourned till 11 a.m. on September 12 th.
