In the House of Commons last night, Lord E. Fitzmaurice stated, in reply to a question, that parleying was now proceeding with the French Gorernment regarding the detention of the Rev Mr Shaw, a British missionary, by the French authorities at Tamatave. London, August 14The private lunatic asylum at Southall, nine miles from London, was totally destroyed by fire last night, and five inmates perished in the flames, T|ie Cholera Spreading. Alexandria, Aug. 14. Notwithstanding the stringent precautions being taken to prevent the spread of the epidemic there has been an alarming increase in the number of people attacked with cholera during the past 24 hours.
