Tahart, 'auctioneer) report on the live stock market at Ashburton Yards as follows;—The - '«ock entered on Tuesday last was not numerous in either shCep or cattle, and the results of the sale were not at all satisfactory to the vendors stock, the late severe frosts having no doubt S > wy much helped the scarcity of grass in this county at-the present time, but with a continuance of present fine weather we look for im- ., . . .proved,prices for stock shortly. The large • shipment ‘of frozen meat per s.s. Catalonia from Lyttelton has helped the values for firstclass fat Sheep in this market, and with pre;i • )sent good returns coming daily to hand of previous shipments per steamers, no doubt this class of sheep will maintain their values and demonstrate to breeders and graziers the most profitable stock to invest in in this locality. We quote—Fat merino wethers, 8s 6d to 8s pd; fat; crossbred do, 13s fid to 17s; and in stores.spqrid mouthed merino ewes, in lamb, 8s odf crossbred ewes in lamb, to I is; and broken mouth ewes in lamb, 3s 3d to 4s, 3d. Fat cattle at from. 17s to 20s per loolbs, and stores at about late rates for young slock in forward condition. Messrs Matson Cox and Co. held their usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs at the -.vJ "Ashburton Yards oh Tuesday the 7th inst., uoitßWhdn entries comprised'!,s29 sheep, pigs, etc., from Messrs R.
