Those who are intimately acquainted with the Alford Forest district are of opinion that this Company possesses the most valuable selections of land for mining purposes, it being one of the earliest made, and in close proximity to the Pioneer Diamond Company. The Golconda Diamond Company has a long frontage to a branch of the Ashburton River, and as it is well known that diamonds are usually found to be more plentiful in the vicinity of streams, it is confidently anticipated from the reports already received from the promoters’ prospecting party and from the general formation of the country, that this claim must ultimately be superior to any other in the district. As there are about 2,000 shares in the company and the area of land is nearly 300 acres, the shareholders may expect immediate returns. Samples have been obtained from the Company’s section by several parties, and been pronounced equal to any obtained up to the present time from the diamond district.
