Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Alfred Harrison reports his weekly sale as follows : Saturday, August 4th : Several horses were sold, values unimportant. Cows received more attention, a fair proportion of those yarded being sold. Pigs were all cleared at good prices. Fowls, is 6d to 3s per pair; dudes, 4s to 6s 3d per pair. Implements dull. Potatoes, 50s to 60s per ton; carrots, 30s; peas, 3s per bushel; oats,- is 6d ; chick wheat, is 6d to as per bushel. Carcase pork, 2%d to 4d per lb. Tea, 2is, guaranteed. Harness and sundries sold well. There was a good attendance, but the general dullness pervades ill more or less.—Shares : Christchurch Diamond, contemplated curiously. Ashburton Diamond, enquired for. Mr T. Bullock reports of the Horse Market for the week ending Saturday, August 4; — There was the smallest entry of horses that there has been for some months past—fanners appear to be engaged putting in crops, which accounts for the few horses offering just now—only 11 were entered, and 5 changed hands as follows: —Medium draughts, Lll to L 18; 3-year-old colt, Ll 4; aged draughts of an inferior description, L. 5 5 s At Friday s sale of trees, shrubs, etc., the whole were cleared at satisfactory prices, especially the fruit trees.
